My retirement accounts are managed by a financial advisor. I hated the bank where I originally opened my Roth in my early 20s, so in my late 20s I moved my Roth to his firm after attending a series of retirement seminars he led. When I changed jobs some years ago, I also moved my old 401k to an IRA managed by him. My husband's equivalent accounts are not actively managed - a Roth at Schwab and an old 401k that he never moved. When updating NW today, I realized that his Roth has been greatly outpacing mine the last couple of years. We contribute the same amount to both annually, so not exactly high marks for my adviser there. So this year I'll look to transfer my accounts either to a different adviser or (more likely, at least in the short term), to a self-managed account.
