05/03/2014 Hmmm... me thinks someone at nwiq.com decided to invest a little money. This site has always been slow as a dog, but things just got real fast. Thanks nwiq! We are teetering on the plus side of the mortgage vs. savings equation. We're currently about $1500 in the black in that regard. There are lots of little games in play that could easily put us back on the red side of that equation though... 1) We've got a shed about to be delivered - we owe about $2,200 on that. 2) The "Other debts" aka - medical bills are essentially of my balance sheet when it comes to mortgage vs. savings. There's $3,500 due there. 3) We spent my daughter's education money. Shhhh! don't tell her aunt and uncle. So technically owe $1,000 to her college savings account at some point. And really we want to max out the legal contribution for the year, which is $2,000. 4) 10th Anniversary... it's not in my nature to splurge. But 10 years of marriage - ya, that doesn't come around again. We're going someplace nice for a loooong weekend, and cutting corners is not gonna happen. I'm guessing we'll spend $1,800 all said and done. Totaling these, we get about $9,500 we need to cover by the end of the year. We've been tapping into savings a little here and there. I'd expect us to do a little more of that in the months ahead. This draws down on the savings, but allow us to keep attaching the mortgage at a breakneck pace. With some luck most of the items above us will be in the rear view mirror by years end. 05/15/2014 Sell in May...
