Notes:
New Entry: MAY 9, 2015 Expense Cutting: -> Reported the vehicle to the insurance co as a 'low mileage/non-commuting' vehicle after realizing I'd been putting well less than 7,500 miles a year on the car. In fact, I reviewed car maintenance records/receipts to discover that on average, over the past 5 years, I've put less than 6,000 miles on the car. Been over paying on car insurance for a LONG time. Not happy about that, but glad to get it rectified. We'll see what it amounts to in savings. Next will be dropping comprehensive and collision coverage. Car is long paid off and I probably wouldn't have it patched up again if I were to get into another accident (it was 'reconstructed' in 2012 when it barely cleared the mark for not being considered totaled). I'm also looking to change my cell plan since i grossly underuse the data and text plans that I'm paying for. Particularly with wi-fi in the house and almost everywhere else I go. I believe I am already on the 'cheapest' plan they have, but given that it's way more than what I need, it's a wast of money, and that is something that I am working hard to eliminate. It may mean giving up the good-old iPhone and moving to a pre-paid plan with another carrier. Lots of wars between the major carriers right now (i.e. Sprint saying they'll cut your Verizon bill in half), so it's a good time to jump ship. I plan to finish painting the rental room today, and fixed the toilet last week. Now I just need a plumber to fix up some other issues, and we should be ready to resume renting rooms at some point this summer. Credit card will be paid off this month; trip to NYC for a friends' birthday party, and other miscellaneous expenses. Lastly, I finally (!!!) opened two-taxable brokerage accounts this week. I'm maxing out my ROTH and 401(k) to maximum allowable contributions for 2015, so this is now the only way to go as far as investing more. I'm splitting my discretionary income (savings/debt snowball) between bigger payments on the HELOC and taxable accounts. Overall, happy with how the year is going so far. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Home value is updated monthly from Zillow.com/Zestimate (Purchase price was $370K in August 2006). Other Mortgage = HELOC/2nd Mortgage
