About Me |
I'm a Canadian physician who enjoys the feeling of empowerment and security that comes with managing one's financial matters, and sharing that knowledge and feeling with others. |
Why I Joined |
To keep track of my net worth on an ongoing basis. Like many others, I migrated from Networth IQ, which I entered data faithfully into since early 2006. |
Best Financial Decision |
Purchased a home at the start of my residency - it has appreciated over 60% since I bought it in August 2005. I am also happy that I worked hard to pay my debt off quickly - being completely debt-free was a great feeling so early in life. |
Worst Financial Decision |
Really nothing catastrophic to date other than having kids, haha! |
Current Investing Strategy |
Have aggressively paid off all debt and am now debt-free by the age of 30 as I set out to be. I plan to max out retirement contributions each year and loosen up with respect to spending - time to live a little! |
How do you manage your finances? |
I move money around but my investment strategy is a buy/hold approach. I don't actively invest as my day job keeps me too busy to do it properly and I realize that investing "half-hearted" is equivalent to gambling. |
What tools do you use? |
Some home-made Excel spreadsheets, online banking, and that's basically it. |
