| On August 10th we had what is called a derecho, which is a straight line wind storm over 70 mph up to 100 mph, similar to a hurricane only on land and over a wide area. We were without electricity 1 1/2 days. Brandon out for at east 8. Our Internet was out quite a while. Madrid and Slater were hard hit with corn flattened and pole barns and storage bins down and some houses damaged. Cedar Rapids was really hit hard with 1000 people homeless. Quite the deal. We were down business wise due to those issues. Inheritance from Marcella has started to trickle in. Mary Sue received over $109K from her Hiway Credit Union Account and we set up a new savings account just for MS' Erickson inheritance so it doesn't get mixed up with our other monies. We had other forms to fill out for that including an IRA we'll get every January for 5 years, about $2000. We pretty well completed the kitchen and paid the dude over $7000 for their last payment. We were very frustrated with them - it took them 8 months! Crazy deal. Brian finished up the flooring and the ceiling in the basement bathroom and the lady MS had working on the island finished. Marty bought us a new 55 inch TV and he had the Best Buy guys come and show us how to work it. Brandon hired two people to start in September in the CR office. We bought a new ice maker as the old one is petering out. We also had to pay $2188 in property taxes. |
