Jadebeauty's, you've taken a great first step in just calculating your net worth. That can be scary to do when it's negative with a lot of students loans. I remember that day as well. I'm curious, have you read Dave Ramsey's book yet? You mentioned a debt forgiveness program, I'm not sure the particulars of your situation but normally those require something like 10 years of a low paying job to have some of your federal loans forgiven. I think you can do much better than that. You've got a deep hole to get yourself out of. A very high paying job and frugal, disciplined lifestyle for a few years is probably the solution for you. I don't know your job prospects but I'm assuming with almost $400K in student loans you and your husband can get some very high paying jobs (one would hope so!). We attacked ours in the first years of our marriage and sacrificed almost all other spending. We've never regretted it. Best wishes on your journey!
