Notes:
Career: It's performance review time, so between writing about performance and taking a vacation, I haven't gotten any work done. I hope it's not too much of a surprise when I read what my peers had to say about me. I still need to model more mature behaviors like communicating what I'm actually working on rather than what sounds nice to say, and also on putting in a consistent number of hours at work.

Life: I took a nice vacation with my husband. And having two weeks with each other without thinking about work helped me open up to him and helped him be present with me.

This has been an issue with him, that under normal conditions he feels like there's never enough time outside of work (because he has FOMO re:friends and ruminates on work in the evenings and weekends, but those things aside), this time anxiety leads to impatience, which means that he only hears the gist of what sounds I'm making, instead of what I'm actually trying to convey.

It's also an issue with me that I'm a long-winded communicator and take 5x longer to say the same thing others can say in a few sentences. My communication style has not been a problem before because my friends, family, and teammates usually allow me extra time to finish my thoughts. So for the past month we have been working on exercising my husband's "patience muscle". I keep letting him know that I'm in the middle of communicating a thought and that he should wait a bit instead of interrupting me.

Here's a vignette of dinner last night, classic example of impatience:
Him (having finished his food): Can I have Y from your plate?
Me (still eating): After I'm done eating this portion of X, you can have my remaining Y.
Later...
Him: Can I have Y from your plate?
Me: Do you not see that I still have one bite of X left? Can't you wait until I am finished with X before you ask again?
I scolded him pretty badly so I hope he has more patience for future meals.

Financial: I've ignored finances for the past month and it's been glorious. This month and the next have big car expenses around repairs, insurance, and registration. My husband couldn't open a 401K with his company until now. He set it up last month, made his first contribution, and got a company match.

Health & wellness: I haven't worked out at all for the past month. I am okay waiting a bit because getting work on track is more urgent right now.
