Notes:
New accountant suggested a solo 401k for my wife's freelance income last year (which she saved, so it could be invested), which saved us about $6K in taxes for 2013. I am doing a bit of consulting on the side now, which will give me another couple of thousand dollars this year to shoot into savings, build my skills, and prepare me for doing more of that in the future when I transition out of the full-time corporate world. Other is cash value of term and whole life insurance policies.
