About Me
I graduated undergrad and grad school early (finished in 4 years total). My parents set up a college fund for me when I was younger so I graduated with no student debt. I have no credit card debt or car loan. My car was bought for me in high school and paid off by my parents. I am currently married with 3 cats and plan to have kids. My husband is from England and never had any debt and only brought over 10k and he has been attending community college and plans to go to 4 year. He is 4 years older than me and we save for his school, additional money for savings and retirement. We bought a house when I was 23 for 365k and we put 10% down. We plan on moving again in a couple years to a house we can have a family in and my husband still has about 3 years left of college. I work remotely from a job located in DC. My job started at 63k when I was 22. My husband only works part time, barely bringing in 900 a month.
Why I Joined
To track my net worth and see my progress and goals.
Best Financial Decision
Going to an affordable college which was covered by my college fund, buying a house early, and sharing one car.
Worst Financial Decision
Not going to a community college first to have leftover college fund money and not buying an older and cheaper house.
Current Investing Strategy
To have a 10k emergency fund and the remaining money I save each month goes into a brokerage account, I only have about $200 each month going to a 401k and $50 plus my employers contribution going to an HSA. I only buy what is required, with occasional rewards, constantly looking for ways to cut costs further, the plan is to save required money for the remainder of my husbands school and the rest to go to a new house that will be the house I stay in and have kids in.
How do you manage your finances?
I created a budget and have a certain amount to spend on necessities each month, along with tracking my fixed costs so I know what to expect when it comes to due. I pay my credit card early each month and whatever leftover above 10k in my emergency fund is sent to a brokerage and immediately invested.
What tools do you use?
Calculator, empower, Wells Fargo, vanguard, budgets
I need financial help with...
I don’t really need financial help. I try and stay as self reliant as possible, occasionally my parents will visit and buy me my groceries.
